About CICF

The challenge

Curricular change is common, and particularly challenging. It has potential to drive more equitable experiences and outcomes for kids, but…

  • It requires teachers to shift practice.
  • Adoption and implementation can be confusing and top-down.
  • It can feel high-stakes.
  • Well-intentioned support can feel evaluative.
  • Results can take time to surface.

The Opportunity

Let's equip leaders with actionable information about on-the-ground curriculum implementation to advance skillful use of those materials in service of great teaching and learning.

Who uses CICF?

CICF is currently being used in states, districts, and schools across the country.

About CICF’s development

The Center for Public Research and Leadership at Columbia University (CPRL) developed the Curriculum Implementation Change Framework (CICF).

The framework and tools have been tested for their validity, reliability, usability, and feasibility. They were developed in partnership with experts  in high-quality instructional materials, professional learning, family engagement, change management, district and state leadership, and research. To develop the initial framework and tools, CPRL received support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and engaged in deep collaboration with, among others: AIR, EL Education, Family Engagement Lab, Great Minds, Illustrative Mathematics, Instruction Partners, Leading Educators, OpenSciEd, Teaching Lab, Student Achievement Partners, Springboard Collaborative, Richmond Public Schools, WestEd, and the Rhode Island Department of Education.
